Yahoo’s Troubles

The pandemic has shut down many live performances, and going to the movies is a sporadic activity. The availability of work has made it difficult for people such as Yahoo.
He has been taken to court and evicted from his house for not paying rent. Yahoo has been ordered to pay five months rent to his former landlord. He fell over $25,000 behind. Yahoo stated that the pandemic has affected his work, and he fell behind in rent from February 25th, 2020.
Yahoo’s Financials
He was working on a new project with his company called Serious Productions, and bank statements revealed he also had no earnings before the pandemic. It is not clear what his financial situation is, as there were very few pieces of evidence to support his claims apart from bank statements.
Yahoo Serious tried to renegotiate the rent under amendments to the Residential Tenancies Act for those who have been affected by the coronavirus. This is only applicable to those who have lost 25 per cent or more of their income. He was ordered to give back the keys and pay $192 per day until then.
Yahoo is close to pension age as he is nearly 67 years old but had not applied for the pension or other Centrelink benefits at the time of his judgement.
With so many artists relying on audiences for their livelihood and lack of secure work, it is hoped that the industry returns to normal before others such as Yahoo lose even more.
